Women's Health

Nutrition plays a fundamental role in everyone’s lives, whatever their age, race, ethnicity, or sex. However, in much of the research that informs nutritional guidelines women are vastly underrepresented

Studies have shown that women’s bodies can respond differently to men’s and tend to be under-researched in comparison to men. For example, women’s cholesterol levels and blood sugar responses to food are very different to men’s, and this can vary with age.

Clare has a specialist interest in women's health, supporting women to thrive at different phases of their lives and to overcome health and nutrition challenges.

Clare uses holistic techniques incorporating culinary nutrition, behavioural strategies, and robust science around how nutrition impacts women’s hormonal and physiological health.

“I work gently with my clients to explore deeper issues within their lives, including lifestyle habits, coping strategies, and their relationship with food. I offer bespoke support to establish sustainable, enjoyable and nourishing habits.”

How can Clare Help?

There are several conditions that affect women's health where diet can make an impact in terms of alleviating and reducing symptoms severity and reducing inflammation. These include;

  • This is one of the most common endocrine disorders. Diet can be really impactful in its management, but there’s not one diet that fits all.

Clare focuses on individually, tailored advice working with her clients to improve insulin sensitivity, optimising the gut microbiome, and tailoring supplementation (only when needed). This can hugely improve symptoms, alongside the quality of life and fertility for women with all types of PCOS.

  • Periods can give a huge insight into our health, increasingly being considered the 5th vital sign by medical professionals.

Clare helps women experiencing Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) to manage a range of symptoms. Seeking evidence-based dietary support can help you to feel better and hugely improve quality of life!

  • It's very common for women to experience a missed period at some point during their reproductive life. However, missing periods consecutively for a number of months needs to be medically investigated.

Clare works with women who have absent periods, including Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) and women in recovery from eating disorders, to help them gain a more regular menstrual cycle and improve their overall health and well-being.

  • These chronic inflammatory conditions can be extremely painful and debilitating.

Alongside medical teams, Clare provides her clients with tailored dietary advice helping to alleviate symptoms and pain by decreasing levels of chronic inflammation and influencing levels of oestrogen in the body.

  • Infections of the bladder, ureters, urethra and kidneys can be incredibly painful and many women experience them regularly.

Alongside clients’ medical teams, Clare works with women to optimise their diet and fluid intake and recommends tailored supplementation to minimise the chance of infections recurring.

  • Women with both hypo and hyperthyroidism can see huge benefits from receiving bespoke dietary support and culinary nutrition advice.

Clare supports clients with meal planning around the use of medication, beneficial supplements and suggesting foods that may potentially cause interactions (such as soya and goitrogens).

  • Clare supports women, in the transitional period, prior to menopause, (known as perimenopause), and during menopause, working with her clients to move them away from diet culture and fad diets. Women’s bodies are meant to change during peri-menopause, and the best diets to support peri-menopause and menopause are ones that are sustainable, balanced and enjoyable. This can help to lay solid foundations from which the rest of your well-being can flourish.

Clare suggests dietary changes to enhance her client's enjoyment of food, as well as benefit them in the long term - optimising heart health, bone health and mental health, as well as managing perimenopausal symptoms.

I consulted Clare when I was struggling with menopause. She was very knowledgeable and after an initial consultation, she suggested a course of cookery and shopping lessons to help me put the advice given into practice. The lessons were great fun, informative and hugely successful. I have found the practical support to be very helpful in terms of maintaining the recommended changes. My symptoms have hugely improved and life has become more normal again. I’m so grateful!
