Sports Nutrition

The past 40 years have clearly demonstrated the influence diet has on sports performance. Without adequate nutrition, athletic performance can be impaired; training levels are difficult to sustain and recovering from injuries takes longer. An effective diet can help athletes achieve their athletic potential, and be the difference between winning and losing.

Clare helps athletes and develops tailored nutrition and hydration strategies for individual sports to boost performance and the overall health of individuals. Her goal is to empower athletes to train longer and harder, optimising their body composition and improving their strength.

Sports nutrition and hydration isn’t a ‘one-size fits all’ approach. Clare works with clients to create an individualised strategy that works for them, taking into account the type of sports performance and helping them manage any challenges they may have. Clare has worked with several elite athletes, including a professional England Football player.

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S)

RED-S covers the broader consequences of chronic low energy availability on an athlete’s health and performance. A team’s culture and the culture of body shaming can also contribute to RED-S through insulting an athlete’s weight, or trying to win at all costs can push athletes to overexercise or under-fuel.

The goal of the treatment of RED-S is to enable athletes to participate in their sports at a safe and appropriate level, replenishing their energy reserves and supporting health and performance. Some athletes will have to stop training for a while when recovering to get back on track.

Clare works with clients to ensure they have adequate energy and nutrients available throughout their day to meet their training and performance needs. She also helps design a bespoke diet to help rebuild strength and vitality and works alongside team sports physicians and psychologists to ensure holistic support.
